Canadian Certified Pedorthist, C. Ped (C)
Western Pedorthic Diploma Program
Do you have a degree in Kinesiology, Science, Health Science, or a related field?
Consider becoming a Certified Pedorthist in Canada. Discover the field of pedorthics: the assessment of the lower limbs through observation of surface anatomy, palpation, gait, and range of motion. Explore the manufacturing, fitting and modification of foot appliances and footwear for the purposes of alleviating painful or debilitating conditions of the lower limbs.
The practicum provides hands-on experience, a strong network of industry contacts, and an edge in the job search process. It is the culmination of your work in the classroom and the bridge to a great career in your target industry.
Option 1:
Diploma in Pedorthics
Designed for university graduates with a degree in Kinesiology who are interested in pursuing a career in pedorthics.
Get Hands-on Experience:
2 Practicums (1120 Hours)
Duration:
12 months online, including 2 practicums.
Requirements:
Undergraduate Degree and prerequisite courses with a minimum average of 70% in the last two years of study

Option 2:
Pedorthics Bridging Program
Designed for university graduates with a STEM related degree. Must have completed 0.5-degree credit in a university level anatomy course.

2 Practicums (1120 Hours)
Duration:
16 months: 4 months online bridging course + 12 months online including 2 practicum placements.
Requirements:
STEM related degree and with a minimum average of 70% in the last two
years of study.

Following completion of the diploma all candidates must pass the Canadian Certified Pedorthist certification exam which consists of two-parts: a 3-hour written component and a 1.5-hour practical component. Once completed you are then recognized as a C. Ped (C) – a Certified Pedorthist in Canada.
Chiropodist, D.Ch.
The Michener Institute of Education at UHN offers the only English-taught Chiropody program in Canada. They offer a rigorous curriculum in fundamental
podiatric medicine, clinical practice that integrates didactic courses, hands-on practical labs, simulated clinical training as well as clinical practice right from the first year of the program. Michener students have the opportunity to treat patients under the supervision of faculty (who are licensed Chiropodists) in Michener’s on-site Chiropody clinic, giving each student the chance to practice and build on their patient-care skills and procedural techniques, including local anesthesia and soft tissue surgery, biomechanics, wound care and radiology
In addition to the on-site Chiropody clinic, students will have the opportunity to complete an external clinical placement possibly at a BioPed Footcare clinic
across Canada where they will gain the experience of “real life” practice, in order to complete the program.
Once students graduate from this program, they are eligible to write the provincial registration exam administered by the regulatory college, the College of Chiropodists of Ontario . To practice as a licensed Chiropodist in Ontario, practitioners must be registered with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
Michener Institute Requirements for Applying
Applicants to the Chiropody program must possess the following qualifications:
• 3- or 4-year undergraduate Bachelors degree in Sciences from a recognized University, or BA in Kinesiology only AND
• One (1.0) full credit equivalent in Human Physiology (2 semester-length courses)* AND
• 0.5 credit equivalent in Human Anatomy (1 semester-length course)
• CGPA will be calculated using entire undergraduate degree
• A minimum Grade Point Average (CGPA) of B (70%), and a minimum grade of B (70%) in each of the required courses

*Note: Michener’s online distance-education course AP807 Gross Human Anatomy & Physiology and AP601 Anatomy and Physiology for Health Care Professionals WILL NOT meet the Gross Human Anatomy and Gross Human Physiology prerequisites for Chiropody.
Admissions to the Chiropody program will be determined by an assessment of academic achievement, CGPA (50%) and CASPer test result (50%)
